• Never-before-seen photos of John F. Kennedy and wife Jackie vacationing with friends in Cape Cod set to go up for auction

A set of rare photographs which show former US President John F. Kennedy and his wife Jackie relaxing on vacation in Cape Cod will go up for auction later this month.
The candid images were taken by Washington Post heiress Katharine Graham at Listerine heiress Rachel 'Bunny' Mellon's Cape Cod beach shack in August 1961, just two years before JFK's assassination and show the couple enjoying a laid-back holiday in the company of some of their closest friends and family, including Mrs Mellon and her banker husband Paul.
In one series of photos, JFK can be seen eating a relaxed meal outside on the deck, while deep in conversation with his host Mrs Mellon. His wife is pictured just a few meters away, seated alongside Mr Mellon.
Another set of images, which will be auctioned off by RR Auction House on February 19, shows the then-44-year-old former President enjoying a swim in the bay alongside a male companion, before climbing up out of the water and onto what appears to be a dock, while reaching for a towel.
None of the images seem to show JFK wearing his back brace, which was designed to help alleviate his chronic back pain - and which he is believed to have been wearing on the day of his death.
Meanwhile, a usually-immaculate Jackie can be seen looking carefree and relaxed, wearing a casual collection of beachwear - a far cry from the high-end fashions she was usually pictured in.
One image shows her enjoying a cigarette, while deep in discussion with a male friend.
In October last year, a set of 13 wedding negatives from the Kennedys' spectacular wedding ceremony and celebration fetched $34,000 at auction, while in 2013, a Polaroid picture depicting the exact moment in which JFK was shot went under the hammer in Cincinnati.
Surprisingly, the image, which was predicted to sell for up to $75,000 failed to attract a buyer, but is believed to have la
Family holidays are a time for making wonderful memories together.

But often, the souvenir snaps you take home with you can be a cause for embarrassment years down the road.

Whether it is a child caught mid-tantrum or retro resort-wear, every family will usually have some vacation moments they'd rather forget.

These families aren't hiding their cringe-worthy photos away in the album though - they are proudly uploading them to the website Awkward Family Photos to share their cherished memories with the world.

According to the US-based website, Awkward Family Photos is all about 'celebrating the family experience and shining a light on all of those deliciously awkward moments that come with the price of family membership.'

The blog was started back in 2009 by childhood friends Mike Bender and Doug Chernack, who were struck by the idea after Mike saw an awkward vacation photo hung in his parents' house.

He quickly realised there were probably plenty of other people out there with their own hilariously unfortunate family images, so the pair decided to create a friendly space where everyone could come together to share those uncomfortable moments.

Though the site initially started with just a few snaps of Doug and Mike's own childhood photos, the premise quickly took off.

In 2010, the first official Awkward Family Photos book was released and today, the site receives millions of hits and thousands of submissions from around the world.

• Taylor Swift heads home alone from 'romantic holiday' after splitting from Harry Styles following almighty row

It seems Taylor Swift will soon be penning yet more heartfelt ballads about her lovelife.
The Red singer, 23, has ended her month-long fling with One Direction heart-throb Harry Styles, 18, after an angry row during their New Year's vacation.
A source exclusively: 'Yes I can confirm they have split up.
'They were on holiday and had an almighty row. They are two young stars at the top of their game so who knows what will happen in the future.'

After spending Christmas apart the pair had jetted off to the British Virgin Islands on New Year's Day to spend some time together.
But things did not go to plan and Taylor ended the holiday early, flying back to the U.S. on her own after just three days on vacation on January 4.

A picture emerged that shows the glum star sitting alone on a boat, her hands in her lap, as she departs the island of Virgin Gorda.
Meanwhile Harry stayed on alone and lived it up, partying with fellow guests, and even fitting in a visit to Richard Branson, who owns a neighbouring a private island.
'Richard Branson heard Harry was staying nearby so invited him to come check out Necker,' a source told Business Insider.
'So when Taylor left for the states, Harry went to Branson's island for the day to let off some steam.'
On his short trip to Necker Island Harry 'did plenty of partying'.
He returned to Gorda in the early morning hours looking like he had a 'raucous night'.
Photos showing an an apparently happy Harry living it up without his now ex-girlfriend were posted online by fans.

They show the British star enjoying himself in a hot tub alongside Branson and other guests and posing shirtless with fans.
Earlier photos had also shown Taylor, who wore a pretty sundress as she posed with fans.
Twitter lover Taylor has remained ominously quiet in recent days, with her first message since New Year's being on January 5 when she wrote: '..

 • Fashion in North Korea

In every corner of the earth, women love to look beautiful and keep up with the latest fashion trends. The women of North Korea are no different. Fashion is taken seriously here. But in North Korea, women do not read Elle or Vogue; they just glimpse a few styles by watching TV or by observing the few foreigners who come to visit. In the hermit kingdom, clothing also reflects social status. If you have foreign clothes it means you travel and are consequently close to the centralized power. Chinese products have inundated the country, adding some color to the traditional outfits that were made of vynalon fiber. But citizens beware, too much style means you’re forgetting the North Korean juche, the ethos of self-reliance that the country is founded on! But the youth tend to neglect it despite the potential consequences.

Photo shows: The mother here can be seen wearing some brand new shoes that could not be found just a few years ago in North Korea. These platform boots are Chinese and have started to change the way North Korean women look. They love to dress like this when they are on vacation or at amusement parks.
Matveiko Zakharenko - or Matthew - was being treated for jaundice when the bungling nurse left the room with a nappy covering the light therapy lamp causing it to explode.

Matthew suffered severe 75 per cent burns and 15 per cent internal organ burns that left his tiny body wrapped in bandages at the hospital in Tula, Russia, in November 2014.

Horrified mother Ekaterina Zakharenko, then just 19, gave him up after the accident when she was told he would need decades of skin grafts, surgery and care.

But after a lengthy legal battle families vying to adopt the brave tot - who even won the heart of president Vladimir Putin - he is now settled in a new home and celebrated his second birthday.

Heart-warming footage shows Matthew - affectionately knows as Matvey or Matty - laughing as he splashes around with his adopted older brother in a paddling pool filled with sea water.

His new mother Svetlana, whose full identity and location is protected due to the sensitivity of the case, said she feels like Matthew has always been part of the family.

She said: "This was Matveiko's first time swimming in the sea and flying on an airplane.

''He made new friends. On vacation we all learned that he was a general favorite. He loves to travel, he enjoys sitting down in a child seat car and looking out the window to watch the landscapes.

''We have consulted different specialists and the forecasts give him good health and los of hope for his rehabilitation. All planned operations will begin in the autumn next year. He is the most beautiful, most intelligent boy you could wish for.
''My dream is to hear his first word and see his first steps. Thank you all for your support."
• Wasted New Yorker arrested for getting into fistfights with cars in Phuket

A super drunk American guy was taken into police custody after causing a minor traffic incident in Phuket early this morning. Police said the man, identified as vacationing American Stephen Leonard, was on foot trying to flag down a vehicle to take him to the airport, before he obstructed traffic on the road and damaged several vehicles.

Tha Chatchai Police Lt. Thanom Thongpan said he received a call from a local at 5:30am reporting that a drunken foreigner was running around frantically in the northbound lanes of Thepkasattri Road smashing the windows of passing vehicles that were forced to stop when he walked into their paths.

He also stood in front of a truck, forcing the driver to stop in the middle of the road, blocking traffic and leaving only one lane open for motorists.

The incident happened in front of the Klua Muang Mai restaurant in Mai Khao, said police.

Responding to the call, Lt. Thanom arrived on the scene with fellow officers and approached a group of local residents who had restrained the intoxicated American man on the side of the road.

The driver of the Toyota pickup, Sakrin, said he was heading north when the man jumped onto his vehicle, hitting the windshield, and threw an empty alcohol bottle, which smashed the window.

The officer said a third vehicle involved in the incident had left the scene by the time police arrived, but later reported to Tha Chatchai Police Station after dropping passengers at Phuket International Airport.

Police confirmed that the man was drunk and that the American Embassy had been notified of the incident.

Leonard paid a fine of THB200 and was ordered to pay for the damage he caused to the vehicles before being released from custody.

He was charged with public intoxication and damaging people’s property.
• Kids Save Baby Beluga Whale Who Washed Up On Shore

While vacationing on the shores of the St. Lawrence River, in Canada, a family received an unexpected visitor: a baby beluga whale. The calf, a female who was likely born just hours earlier, had lost her mother. The boys who had stumbled upon her scrambled to save her life.

"We dug a hole so that water would accumulate and its skin would hydrate," 15-year-old Nicholas Milliard, who first found the calf with his younger brothers, told CBC News. "Every five minutes we got it a bucket of water. The water level was dropping, and it was becoming more and more difficult to get water."

It doesn't happen very often that humans meddle with sea life and save a life — too often we've see the opposite happen. But in this case, the Quebec family was able to stabilize the baby beluga until help could arrive.
Researchers with the Group for Research and Education on Marine Mammals (GREMM) arrived to carefully move the ailing baby back into the waters, near another pod of beluga whales

The hope, as GREMM president told Le Devoir, was that one of the other females might be induced to feed her. Sadly, most recent reports suggest it has not yet happened — which makes the situation particularly precarious for the baby beluga.

Beluga whales nurse their young for around two years. This baby, just days old, is desperately in need of a lactating mother to give her a vital start in life.

"For now, we do not yet know the outcome of the story," Michaud told Le Devoir.

The calf's survival is particularly vital, as the beluga whale population ebbs to unprecedented levels in the St. Lawrence region.

The area, Michaud notes, once boasted thousands of beluga whales. Today, the population is estimated at less than 900. Much of that decimation, according to the World Wildlife Fund of Canada, is due to the river's rising pollution levels.
But this baby beluga, at least, has a fighting chance. She held out on the beach for her young he
