• Pattaya Hells Angels murder trial

A Thai provincial court is expected to hand down its verdict in November against an Australian man accused of the murder of an Australian motorbike gang leader in Pattaya, Thailand last year, court officials say.

Antonio Bagnato, 26, has been facing court on charges of leading a gang of five foreigners to kill Hells Angels member Wayne Rodney Schneider, 37, in a dispute over money linked to drug trafficking.

Bagnato was arrested in a hotel in Phnom Penh after fleeing soon after his alleged involvement in the murder. Reports say Bagnato could face the death penalty.

Schneider was kidnapped in early December 2015 from his rented villa in the Thai seaside town of Pattaya, 150 kilometres from Bangkok.

Two days later his naked, tattooed body was found in a shallow, sandy grave in Sattahip Province in Chonburi, 30km away from his home.

Bagnato and 21-year-old American Tyler Joseph Fulton Sheen Gerard fled but the American was arrested at an immigration check point as he attempted to cross into Cambodia.

Thai police said Bagnato was the alleged mastermind behind the kidnapping and killing. Bagnato was charged with kidnapping and murder.

Schneider, a senior member of the Hells Angels, was known to authorities for overseeing a drug trafficking network that extended to Europe and Asia and was worth millions of dollars. Bagnato was a former business associate of Schneider in Australia.

Bagnato’s recent court appearances come as members of the Hells Angels bike gang in Pattaya were required to pay 150,000 baht ($A6000) to two Thai brothers after an altercation and assault.

Two Australians, Daniel Anthony Stalley, 34, and John Lee, 43, had turned themselves in to Pattaya police after the altercation with the Thais was caught on CCTV.

The fight followed a dispute and damage to the Australians’ vehicle near a beer bar in South Pattaya on September 17
• Scan of dismembered body suggests saw used to cut man up.

A SCAN on body parts found in a refrigerator during a raid last week on a building in Bangkok’s Sukhumvit Soi 56 suggests it was an elderly European man who was dismembered by an electric saw, Dr Udomsak Hoonwichit, of Chulalongkorn University’s faculty of medicine, said yesterday.

The deceased man’s DNA will be collected for identification and given to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for a check with its database, he said.

Udomsak and Central Institute of Forensic Science director Suphot Nakngernthong took the dismembered body for a virtual autopsy yesterday by CT scan to try to determine the time of death, the cause and possibly some clues about the killer.

That was carried out while other identification methods were used such as checking clothes and dental records, DNA sampling, and testing for traces of toxic elements or poison, Udomsak said. The results would also be sent to the FBI for a second check.

“The fact the body parts were frozen could affect the probe result, especially for the time of death,” he said. “The body is suspected to have been dismembered by a sharp electric saw and he was initially found to be an elderly European man.”

National police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda said yesterday that the interrogation of three Western suspects arrested at the building for passport forgery and other charges helped police identify a possible motive for murder. But he declined to reveal that motive pending a further investigation, plus victim identification and whether the deceased was involved with the gang.

He said police also contacted an unnamed embassy to see if the victim was a citizen of that country, as per a passport found in the building.

Chakthip said the person who did this was cruel to kill and dismember someone to conceal a crime.

He confirmed that the group was involved with forged passports. The suspected gang leader is a man in his 50s identif

 • Body in Bangkok freezer has been dead for 8 years

An elderly Caucasian man, whose dismembered body was found stuffed in a freezer during a police raid on a passport forgery gang’s hideout, is believed to have died about eight years ago, making it difficult to identify him.

The body parts were found last Friday at a shophouse on Sukhumvit Soi 56. Investigators believe one of the three suspects arrested after the raid bought the freezer in the Rama IV area in 2008, Metropolitan Police Division 5 chief Somprasong Yenthuam said Tuesday.

This new piece of information has led authorities to assume the victim died quite some time ago, Pol Maj Gen Somprasong said.

On Monday, Chulalongkorn Hospital’s head of forensic medicine, Udomsak Hoonwijit, said the body parts had been frozen for an extended period.

One of the three suspects, earlier identified as British national Peter Andrew Colter, and reportedly married to a Thai woman, had told police the freezer was moved from his former house on Ekkamai Soi 12 to the shophouse on Sukhumvit Soi 56.

Mr Colter said he had no idea what was inside the freezer.

Police found several passports belonging to him with different names, making it difficult to determine exactly where he is from. Police believe he is the gang’s leader and has knowledge about the corpse, Pol Gen Somprasong said.

However, the man has been tight-lipped, providing no information about the victim. His alleged accomplices — Aaron Thomas Gabel and Jame Douglas Eger — have been confirmed by US embassy in Bangkok to be US nationals.

Officers have questioned three individuals who moved the freezer from Mr Colter’s former house. However, due to the ongoing investigation, their accounts must remain confidential for the moment, according to police.

Meanwhile, a team of forensic doctors conducted a new postmortem examination Tuesday on the body and are expected to share results with officers Wednesday, city police chief Sanit Mahathavorn said. Investiga

 • On the afternoon of October 5 Banglamung police station received reports of an unidentified body laying face down in a marsh on Sukhumvit Road outside Banglamung Temple.

The man, thought to be aged between thirty and thirty-five-years old, was wearing black t-shirt and shorts and was without shoes.

Medics estimated he had been dead for around 24-hours. The body has no wounds or other signs of injury. There was no ID or any valuable belongings found.

Forty-eight year old Mrs Duangkamol Kornsawang, an employee of the Highways Department, made the discovery whilst on normal inspection duties and informed the police.

Officers believe, given the evidence available, that the man was of no fixed address and who had been ‘just been hanging around the area.’

The body has been sent for autopsy in order to reveal the cause of death.
• 'One child said a Muslim prayer and was spared, the other was killed': How five-year-old boy pleaded for his life before being shot dead by al Qaeda terrorists as they singled out victims in Ivory Coast beach attack 'targeting US diplomats'

Suspected al Qaeda terrorists shot dead a five-year-old boy who fell to his knees and prayed for his life during a terror attack on a tourist resort in Ivory Coast, eyewitnesses have said.
At least four men armed with AK47s and hand grenades killed 16 people, including four Europeans, in the historic town of Grand Bassam before they were gunned down in a shootout with government troops.
One survivor who saw the attack unfold said: 'They killed a child despite him kneeling down and begging. They shot a woman in the chest. They've killed innocent people.'
Another witness, Marcel Guy, said a man with a long beard spoke to two children in Arabic and spared the life of the one who was able to recite an Islamic prayer.
'The Christian boy was shot and killed right in front of my eyes,' Guy said.
