• HIGHWAY TO YELL IN NORTH KOREA

Taking the highways in North Korea is a great experience as it allows to see the daily life of the country not controled by the government like in Pyongyang. They connect the main towns of the countries and are totally empty of cars. It makes a very strange atmosphere as the roads are as large as airstrips, but in bad shapes with lot of bumpings and holes.
Everything is planned when you travel in North Korea, even the bathrooms stops, as according to the guide, it is too dangerous to stop on the highway to make a pee stop!
Some shops in the middle of nowhere welcome you for a relaxing moment where one more time, you’ll be able to read some propaganda on the walls. It will also allow your driver to buy cheap Soju (rice alcool) that they drink like Red Bulls but with different side effects!

Photo Shows: A kid with his gooses on the highway side. Most of the time people use the highway for their daily activities and are surprised to see cars or buses on it.

• Two ELEPHANTS stop 18 wheeler from tipping off side of Louisiana highway

Two elephants saved the day Tuesday after an 18-wheeler in which they were being hauled from New Orleans to Texas nearly tipped over were it not for their help.
They were two of three Asian elephants in the truck being transported from Florida to a circus in Dallas when the driver pulled over on I-49 in Natchitoches Parish around 7am.
When mud caused the long-haul truck to begin to tip onto its side, a trainer had the bright idea of enlisting the pachyderms for help.

Video reveals him coaxing one of the beasts out of the truck as the other is already standing with its head anchoring the truck's trailer.
When members of the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's department arrived, 'they were astounded to find two elephants keeping the eighteen wheeler from overturning,' reads the department's official statement.
A local wrecker was soon enlisted to pull out the 2000 Kenworth eighteen wheeler and no citations were issued,

The elephants, presumably, went on their way.

But where they were headed doesn't sit well for many.
In fact, the nation's largest circus, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey, is ending its iconic elephant acts due to growing public concern about how the endangered creatures are treated.
The circus’ parent company, Feld Entertainment, told The Associated Press exclusively that the acts will be phased out by 2018.

The circus plans to phase out elephant acts by 2018. Feld’s 43 elephants will live at the company’s 200-acre Center for Elephant Conservation in central Florida.
Twenty-nine animals are already there, and the other 14 will arrive as they are phased out from the circus.
Elephant acts have been showcased by Ringling for more than a century and have often been featured in its posters
India's Rocky Road

India, with the second largest road network in the world, is on a massive, nationwide road building campaign, cutting shops and houses in half to make way for the roads. My work shows those houses and shops, after they are cut right up to the point where the newly expanded highway and service roads will be. The structures are not cut any further in order to minimize the costs of the demolition and to allow the building inhabitants to continue to use the remainder of the space.

Road building in the Indian subcontinent can be traced back to 4000 BC and has included such famous highways as the Grand Trunk Road, stretching 1,600 miles from modern-day Bangladesh to Pakistan. Up through India's independence in 1947, to 1988, most Indian roads were just a single lane, a system once ranked worse than Botswanas, by the World Economic Forum.Since liberalization of the Indian economy in 1995, the National Highways Authority of India has privatized road development in India, and has directed the building of over 44,000 miles of new highways (as of December of 2012.) Of those, 11,800 miles are 4-lane or 6-lane modern highways.Another 24,900 miles of widened roads are in the planning stages.

Most people whose buildings have been cut have been compensated by the government (or they were on the land illegally and were denied such compensation.) While many structures have been completely demolished, the remaining half-cut buildings are what have caught my attention. In these, the cuts are almost "surgical" in their precision, yet in this case, the "surgeons" couldn't care less about their "patients."

I have been photographing the impact of globalization across India for almost two decades. I am particularly intrigued by this topic because, unlike so much of my previous work on globalization, the ‚before and after‚ are visible in just one frame. You can see both the expressway that is consuming the land and the mutil

 • THE BOTH SIDES OF THE DMZ

I first visited the Demilitarized Zone on the North Korean side in 2008. The DMZ is a 250 km long, 4km wide stretch of land that serves as a buffer zone between North and South Korea.
I came back 5 times there before being banned by the North Korean regim.
I visited the DMZ on the South Korean side twice in 2016 and 2017.
The both sides have huge differences but not in the way you may expect sometimes...
The two Koreas have signed armistice but not peace. The Joint Security Area in Panmunjom is called a « demilitarized zone », but in fact it is the most armed zone in the world and also a major touristic attraction both in North and South with more than 100 000 tourists coming there every year.

Photo shows: In North Korea, reaching the DMZ is possible from Kaesong. All along the highway near the south korean border, you can see those huge cement blocks. They can be used to block the highway in case of American invasion.
In South Korea, the highway has nothing special.

• dog butchers arrested on Highway after carrying more than 100 slaughtered Dogs in Thailand

Two more dog butchers are out of business. , Soi Dog undercover investigators and the Thai police were alerted to a truck en route to Tha Rae, north-eastern Thailand - the heart of dog meat territory.
Cornered by the police car, the truck had no choice but to stop. Concealed in the back of the pick-up were the carcasses of more than one hundred dogs.

Traditionally, these snatched dogs would have been transported alive – often up to 10 dogs to a cage and for days at a time – to primitive butcher premises, where they would be tortured and slaughtered.
Under questioning, the occupants of the truck confessed that due to the ever increasing number of arrests, they had slaughtered the dogs before transport, in the hope that they would be easier to conceal and the truck would not be stopped.
The public awareness billboards are leading to more and more arrests and forcing the dog snatchers into a corner!
The butchers were promptly arrested and will now face charges under both the Prevention of Contagious Diseases Act and Thailand’s first ever Animal Welfare Law, brought into effect
