• The Stunning Beauty of Braided Rivers

Most rivers flow in one broad channel of water, but some rivers split into lots of small channels that continually split and join each other to give a braided appearance. These are called braided rivers.

Braided rivers are usually wide but shallow. They typically form on fairly steep slopes and carry large amount of coarse-grained sediments. When the river’s flow decreases, these sediments get deposited on the river bed leaving behind small temporary islands of sands that cause the river’s channel to split. Aside from a steep gradient and abundance of sediments, a variable water discharge rate is essential to their formation. Consequently, braided rivers exist near mountainous regions, especially those with glaciers. Braided channels are also found in environments that dramatically decrease channel depth, and hence channel velocity, such as river deltas, alluvial fans and peneplains.
• Peak perfection! Photographer snaps spectacular images showing the beauty of the French Alps from above

The sun piercing a snow-covered landscape has been captured beautifully in these photos by Polish photographer Jakub Polomski.

The intrepid traveller ascended the summit of Aiguille du Midi in the French Alps, a height of some 3,842m and often seen as a starting point before taking on Mont Blanc.

And of course, his camera became useful once at the top.

Speaking to boredpanda.com, Polomski said: 'You can easily get there by cable car. It was built in 1955 and for about two decades was claimed to be the highest cable car in the world.

'Aiguille du Midi is one of the best tourist attractions in French Alps. It is also a start point for mountain climbers who desire to climb Mont Blanc.

'I visited the place twice and experienced different weather conditions up there.'
The first day of Polomski's challenge saw him experience agreeable conditions atop the Chamonix mountain, the weather was warm and sunny, with little wind.

However the second day things took a turn for the worse, it snowed heavily and the wind picked up making it bitterly cold.

Polomksi's love for the earth's beautiful and often mysterious landscape has seen him travel to Argentina and Chile, as well as Slovakia, France and Norway among others.

He described his time viewing the Queens of Andes in Chile as 'the most beautiful national park,' while earlier this year he photographed one of the biggest glaciers in the world in Argentina, the Perito Moreno.

• BODI TRIBE FAT MEN
(very) big is beautiful

Every year, takes place in the deep south of Ethiopia, in the
remote area of Omo valley, the celebration of the Bodi tribe new
year: the Kael. For 6 months the men from the tribe will feed themselves with only fresh milk and blood from
the cows. They will not be allowed to have sex and to go out of their little hut. Everybody will take care of them, the girls bringing milk every morning in pots or bamboos. The winner is the bigger. He just
wins fame, nothing special. This area does not welcome tourists and has kept his traditions

Photo shows: The cows are sacred in Bodi tribe, so they are not killed. The blood is just taken after making a hole in a vein with a spear or an axe, then they close it with clay.
• Scary Scarifications

Seeing a scarification ceremony in the Surma tribe from the Omo valley in Ethiopia is a tough time. Not for the girl who is going to be scarified but for the foreigner who needs to see blood running, flies going into the wounds, under a hard sun. The girl, who was 12, did NOT say any word during the ten minutes ceremony, and did NOT show any pain. Her mother used a spine to pull the skin and a razor blade to cut the skin.
At the end, i asked her if it was not too hard to have her skin cut with a razor blade, and she answered that she was close to collapse! It was incredible as she did not show any sign of pain on her face. It would be a shame for the family she confessed. A girl's eagerness to tolerate pain is also an indication of her emotional maturity and willingness to bear children.
The kid chooses to do it, nobody obliged her. Scarifications are a beauty sign in the tribes. This is the tradition in Surma tribe.
But for years now, the kids who go to school or who convert to christian, are told not to do it anymore. The men say the lack of scars on the skins make them looking ugly.
The skin of the tribes in this area has a special reaction to cutting: the cicatrisation creates raising scars. Ash and certain organic saps might be added to a wound to make the scarring more prominent and or embellished.
Not far from the Surma area, the Bodi women also make scars, some even have coil scarifications on the shoulders. It is very painful as they use some metal to do this, like when they do it to their cows to mark them on the fur and the skin! Pain seems unknown in the area.
I met Ana who lives in the small village of Hana Mursi. She now hides her scarifications she had at 12, as she has gone to Arba Minch town to study at the Police school. People wearing scarifications are seen as « primitives » by many urban ethiopians and they suffer from this. She is proud to introduce me to her best friend, a bodi teenager who has made a heart on her a
